Brian Keown is returning to his role as Captain of Schuylkill River Rugby’s 15s program following a successful year at the helm in 2018-2019 which saw the Club earn playoff berths for the Exiles (D1) and Troop (D3) sides and saw Brian score more than 100 points from the flyhalf position.

Philadelphia rugby has always been of Brian’s DNA. Prior to joining Skill Rugby he played locally for St. Joe’s Prep from 2008-2012 where he was the captain from 2011-2012 and the MVP in 2012. From there he went to the University of South Carolina where he played from 2012-2016 and was named MVP in 2015-2016 and SEC Player of the Year in 2016. At South Carolina he also played in the Collegiate Rugby Championship (CRC) in 2014 and 2016 and the USA Rugby 7s Collegiate Nationals from 2014-2016 as well as the USA Rugby 15s Collegiate Nationals in 2015 and 2016. Brian also spent a year playing for West Chester University.

Since joining Schuylkill River Rugby in 2016 Brian has established himself as one of the best Philadelphia rugby players in both 7s and 15s. His efforts have earned him D1 Backline MVP honors in 2018 and 2019 and in 7s he Captained the side and earned Premier Side Player of the Year honors for the 2018 season that saw him lead the team in points scored, tries, and minutes played. In 2019 Brian was a member of the Skill Rugby 7s side that finished fourth in the Nation.

Brian has also been selected to the elite Atlantis 7s program for tournaments in Barbados in 2017 and 2018 as well as Las Vegas in 2018. He has been invited to once again travel to Barbados in December of 2019.

We are lucky to have Brian leading the team this season. His combination of skill and leadership quality will be a benefit to all of our players.
